Friends of the Heart

This is a piece of artwork Sam brought home from school when he was three… He was told to choose which friend he wanted standing beside him beneath this umbrella. It was no surprise to us that he chose Mary Helen.
This is the third year Sam and Mary Helen have been in class together, and they've had a special little friendship the whole way through. She's the perfect mix of a pretty, girly girl ~ but with that sassy flair that makes her all sortsa fun… She can eat a cupcake with the best of 'em!
AND she can make some super-cool-awesome noises with her mouth!
Sam was laughing with excitement when he saw Mary Helen at a birthday party this weekend… he had no idea she would be there.
The two of them giggled in their own little world for much of the party.
It was truly adorable to watch them together and see the affection they have for each other. This is the last year that Sam and Mary Helen will be in school together ~ but I have a feeling their friendship will continue. Somehow. Someway.
Cuz neither time nor distance can take away a special friend-of-the-heart...

    THey ae so cute together! I am glad they both enjoyed being at the party and having fun! I love them both! Thanks for taking photos at the party too. You got wonderful captures of everything!

    Thanks Amy ~ I hope I was able to produce at least a couple good shots for you... We all had a great time at the party! It was a treat to be there to celebrate with Emma Caroline. Crazy how fast they are all growing!

Wow! It's been a while.  Coming to this seat to reflect and write is always in the back of my mind, but sometimes it's just more complicated than others to actually get here. I have several significant events to share with you. I have pictures!! You must see! We've celebrated Charlie turning 5 (Oh my Lord! His world has changed!) We had our family Christmas time. We've had SNOW! We went skiing. Life keeps happening. Peak 8 and Carter Park

We geared up the next morning to enjoy a few more of the fun adventures Breckenridge has to offer.   We started with a gondola ride up to Peak 8 This gave us an opportunity to check out the ski slopes and helped convince me to take Sam and Charlie skiing...  Yikes!! (more to come on that)   Our kids are going to jump in a snow pile anywhere they can and start playing...   You know it's a good day when you're sitting beneath some blue skies 8,000 feet above sea level, having a drink and some lunch outside near a small fire, and watching people enjoy the gorgeous slopes of Colorado. Robbie's Tavern at Peak 8 ~ highly recommend! Onward to Carter Park to indulge in some sledding!   Can you even stand this smile? Charlie learns to swim!!!

It seems that there is a magical moment in every child's life where the concept of swimming just clicks. I remember Sam had his moment in the Renaissance Hotel overlooking Manhattan just before his 4th birthday. We had been driving for 11 hours straight, and he was so excited to get some energy out - he just started swimming all over the salt water pool.  Well, Charlie had his moment this past week in Orlando. While he was first a little angry that his mommy and daddy forgot his swim vest, he later become the happiest little boy in Florida!   Racing his big brother Great Job Charlie Hatcher!! So proud of my newest little fishy! Here are a few others of our day at the pool.
