The Boulder I get, the happier I feel
On sort of a whim, we took a long weekend family vacation to Boulder, CO. For Fathers' Day, we surprised Richie with tickets to go see the Dodgers play the Rockies in Denver. We made a long weekend of it and explored Boulder for a few days.
Boulder continues to be one of my favorite places in the country... I love the blend of energy, outdoors, mountains, city, hippie, cool, and laid back. The food is fabulous. The people are nice. It reminds me a lot of Asheville, NC, but with a bigger sky. I keep encouraging my kids to consider it for college... I have to imagine it would be a spectacular college experience (and I know they would love for their mama to visit them a LOT!)
After a few failed attempts on prior trips to find a legit hiking trail, we found our way to Flagstaff Mountain, a stone's throw from Boulder. It still was not hiking the way I know it to be in the Smoky Mountains, with lengthy trails under canopy of trees... but it was still very cool... Lots of great rocks and boulders to climb (all these names are now starting to click... 😉)
Everyone seemed pretty happy throughout the adventure... complaining was kept to a minimum, which always a big accomplishment.
Few things in life make this mama's heart happier than going on a good outdoor adventure on a beautiful day.
"And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high, I've seen it raining fire in the sky. You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply. Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high..."

(still can't get this song out of my head...)
