Forced Family Time

 

I tend to get a little grumpy when too much time goes by without having a Hatcher family adventure.  Considering much of the summer of 2020 was spent packing, moving, cleaning, painting, acclimating to a new job, and driving between Knoxville and Nashville - I often felt this panicked grumpy feeling that too much time was slipping by with no family memories.

So I forced everyone out to Ft. Loudoun Lake for the day to get in some much needed time away, kayaking and paddle boarding. 


Everything we did this summer had this overarching feeling that "this will likely be the last time we get to do this activity... here.. in Knoxville."


Nonetheless, we made a great day out of it.

Wow! It's been a while.  Coming to this seat to reflect and write is always in the back of my mind, but sometimes it's just more complicated than others to actually get here. I have several significant events to share with you. Tom Sawyer's Island

Another highlight of our day at Magic Kingdom was taking the wooden log pontoon boat over to Tom Sawyer's Island. Not only did it bring back some great memories for me from the third grade in Mrs. Labadie's class - but it also proved to be an excellent photo op of my dear pleaser-son, Sam.  Between the low light of late afternoon, the reflection of the water, and Sam's love for making his mommy happy… these turned out to be my favorite photos of the trip  (favorite photos from a photographer's perspective… not necessarily from a mommy tourist perspective!) I know this appears washed out from the lighting… but I like the soft look of it ~ and I think his face is precious here.   I heart his sweet smile, and his eyes...   Here is another somewhat washed out… but again makes for a soft, sweet picture And, yes, Charlie joined us on Tom Sawyers Island… He's just not into doing the "how can I make my mommy happy" thing. Mornings on the Patio

On my days off from work, we've been taking advantage of this great weather and our shaded backyard by enjoying breakfast outside. It typically leads to some small adventures on the patio. On this particular day, the boys got into bubbles and cars.   Sam was mastering the art of recycling bubbles by blowing, catching, and recreating.   He was getting pretty good at it by the time the morning winded down ~   Meanwhile, Charlie was intently focused on fixing this car...   he had the tongue out and all!
