Another Treehouse Adventure

Amidst the craziness of 2020, we decided to sneak in a quick canoe trip / treehouse get away.  It's something we did 5 or 6 years ago, and it has continued to stand out as one of our most favorite family trips. Luke was too young to go with us last time, so this was the first time experiencing the adventure with our whole family.

And it just so happened to be Father's Day. So we got to bundle celebrating our favorite dad into the trip as well.

Our adventure began with a drive over to South Carolina and then an early morning canoe launch to begin our 13 mile ride to our treehouse - our humble abode for the night.
In typical kid fashion, there were multiple combinations of parents, canoes, and kids throughout the day.
The boys enjoy getting out and swimming along side the canoes... and since the canoe is always greener on the other side, it makes sense to climb aboard the other ride every few minutes...

Of course, I can't help but drive them a bit crazy with the constant photos... but, I mean, how often do you find yourself on a canoe ride traveling to a treehouse for the night?
And how often do you find yourself surrounded by the handsomeness of these sweet faces?

We were happy to find a rope swing along the way. Hatcher boys don't often pass up a good rope swing.  This particular one left a bit to be desired, but they made the best of it nonetheless.

Luke seriously adores his brothers. It's not too often they are genuinely just nice to him...  You can see in this picture, this happened to be one of those rare moments. Luke just eats it up.  Makes my mommy heart melt.

Always gotta make time for fishing!  This guy looked like he needed a hook in his lip.

We finally reached our destination... our home for the night ... with no electricity, no plumbing, no water... and probably not enough bug spray, utensils, or dish soap...  But hey! What can we really expect when we are spending the night in the middle of nowhere...  in a tree.
When you've got a hammock, what else do you really need anyway?

More time for fishing...
I'll let you guess what's happening in this picture below... I'll just say that the outhouses weren't nearly as nice as I remembered them being ... and we. just. couldn't....  I think each one of the boys found himself in this somewhat vulnerable situation 😛
When duty calls...

After a less than average night's sleep, we started off on our 11 mile canoe ride back to our truck.

Day 2 left everyone a bit grumpier...

I seriously love taking pictures of Luke when he is pouting... while it's annoying and makes me a bit crazy...  it's pretty stinking adorable in a picture.

We stumbled upon some pretty cool dragon flies along the way... many of them hung with us on our canoes as we paddled. We found this one resting on a branch during one of our stops.

So...  now that we've had a twofer with our canoe/treehouse trip on the Edisto River - and all the kids were able to experience it - I feel pretty confident that's a wrap on the treehouses for the Hatcher family.
Bye bye treehouse adventure! Thanks for the good memories and the great photo ops! 💚
